Building pipeline when entering a new geography
Practical considerations for technology companies testing demand in an unfamiliar market before committing local headcount.
Expanding into a new country is one of the most consequential decisions a growing technology company makes. Before investing in local teams and offices, many companies want evidence that demand exists. Structured outbound demand generation can help gather that evidence.
Localise the profile, not just the language
Company size bands, industry structure, buying processes and job titles differ across markets. An ICP that works in one country may need adjusting in another. Revisit each assumption explicitly.
Respect local norms and regulations
Communication expectations and data-protection rules vary by region. Outreach should be compliant, professional and appropriate to local business culture.
Define what 'validated' means
Agree in advance what would count as a positive signal from the market: a number of qualified conversations, recurring problems voiced by buyers, or interest from a particular segment. Clear criteria make the eventual go/no-go decision more objective.
